What is a sub-domain?

A sub-domain is the ability to have a url like this - mysubdomain.myrealdomain.com. Instead of having a URL like this www.myrealdomain.com/somedirectory/

All it does is simplify the URL so you don't need to specify a directory as well. So you could have one site at www.siteone.com and one site at sitetwo.siteone.com.

Sub-domains can be setup through your cPanel Control Panel. Pages that will be placed into the sub-domain need to be placed in the appropriate directory in the webspace. That directory is called the name of the sub-domain, and is just below the directory you get when you login to your webspace.
