What's the difference between using my own SSL certificate and using your shared one?

There is almost no difference. The minor advantage of having your own SSL certificate is when clients see web pages using our shared secure server, they will see your domain name in the URL bar of their browser.

So using our secure server with your own certificate would display https://www.domainname.com instead of https://www.rightdns.com/mysite/mypage.html which they would if you didn't have one.

While there is technically very little difference between sites with a secure SSL certificate of their own, and sites using our shared certificate, some companies do prefer to display their domain name on secure pages.

Not only does this provide additional branding of the domain name, it reassures the client that they are still on the same site and avoids any confusion. This can be especially important when the secure pages are asking for personal information or credit-card details.
