How do I connect a domain name to your hosting?

Connecting (or more accurately pointing) your domain name to your hosting account with Cherry, is a very easy process. This process is also known as setting DNS or setting the nameservers.

If you purchase your domain name with us as you purchase your web hosting account, we will connect the two for you. This can be a supurb option for people publishing websites for the first time.

To point a domain name bought eleswhere to our servers, start by going to the website where you bought your domain name from originally. This company is known as your domain name registrar.

Once you are at your domain name registrar's site, login to your account there using the account you created with them when you bought your domain name.

Now that you are logged in, find the place in their site to "Set your DNS settings" or "Set your nameserver settings". This is a pretty basic function that your domain name registrar performs, so it should be in a fairly prominent spot on their site.

Sometimes the place to enter your DNS settings can be found under a "Manage your Domain" heading, or clicking on a link with your domain name listed.

Once your find the appropriate page, you will have at least two boxes to enter the settings to point your domain name. Go to the setup email you got from us when you ordered your hosting, and look for the settings titles "Nameserver Info". They look similar to this:

» NameServer Info:
Primary DNS Server Hostname: dns5.example.com
Primary DNS Server Address: 127.0.0.1
Secondary Name Server Hostname: dns6.example.com
Secondary Name Server Address: 127.0.0.2

Delete any old nameservers, and take the settings from your setup email and enter them into the appropriate boxes. Some sites will not require you to enter the server addresses, only the hostnames.

Complete the process by submitting the changes.

It takes around 12 to 48 for the change to be complete, and your domain name to be fully pointed to our servers. You will know that the process is complete when your enter your domain name into Internet Explorer and you see your webspace.

The next step in getting your site published is to upload your site.
