Can I use Perl or PHP?
Yes. Every plan includes the ability to use Perl or PHP code to deliver dynamic pages to your visitors. Highly personalised content and advanced functionality is possible by building sites in one of these languages.
We keep up-to-date with the latest stable build of the Perl and PHP interpreters, and even supply the snippet of code to connect your page to your MySQL database.
Because our hosting uses powerful Linux servers you will require one of the following paths to use Perl:
- Path to Perl: /usr/bin/perl
- Path to Sendmail: /usr/sbin/sendmail
- Home Directory: /home/your_username/
You must also remember that you need to change permissions on your Perl scripts to 755 to avoid an Error 500 Internal Server Error, and they must be placed in the cgi-bin directory to run. These settings and requirements are standard for using Perl, but sometimes the little things trip-up even the pros.
