Can my visitors enter the domain name without the "www"?
Yes! Not many web hosting companies are flexible enough to offer this service to their clients, we do. Domain names can be entered without the "www." and receive the site exactly the same as if they had entered the "www.".
This is especially useful for longer domain names. For example you could have:
- mikejenkins.com
- buttondesign.co.uk
- lazer.net
This way the domain name of your site is easier to remember, shorter, and makes more of an impact on your new clients.
Please note that it takes a little while longer for this to work when you first set DNS. In most cases webmasters see their domain name first resolve for the full domain name first, and then roughly 24 hours later they can use either the full domain or the shortened version. As with all DNS settings the propagation time can vary.
If your domain is taking a little longer to resolve (say 60 or 70 hours after you first set it) then please be patient. If after four to five days your site still isn't resolving then there is a high chance that the settings were entered incorrectly.
Naturally, if you purchase your domain name and hosting together with Cherry Web hosting, we will enter the DNS settings for you and ensure they are done correctly.
