Which domain name should I get?

Deciding on a domain name is a very important decision because once you commit to it, your visitors will start bookmarking your page for when they visit in the future. Also remember that your domain name is also used when your new clients email you.

Domain names must contain at least three alpha-numeric characters, and a TLD extension (eg. .com or .net). Most companies choose to go with the name of the company as the domain name. If the company name is rather long or complicated to spell then a shortened version is usually perfectly acceptable.

After you have decided on your domain name you need to choose a TLD extension. Here is a list of the common extensions to domain names:

  • .com - Commercial websites. Eg. www.yahoo.com
  • .net - Network providers and ISPs. Eg. www.isp.net
  • .org - Non-profit organisations. Eg. www.redcross.org
  • .edu - Schools and education facilities. Eg. www.harvard.edu
  • .gov - Government departments. Eg. www.whitehouse.gov

To further identify the organisation further, the option is available for international country codes in the domain name. A domain with an international country code has a format similar to www.domainname.com.au. The country codes you have available to use depend on the country where you are a resident.

Our servers are equiped to be able to host any domain name with any extension.
