Why are cheap domain names exactly the same as regular domains?

This is one question that requires a little technical knowledge. Put simply - the way the Internet works means that your choice of domain name or domain name registrar doesn't matter at all.

The reason why it doesn't matter is because your domain name is just a pointer to your hosting account. When you register your domain name, the company you registrar your domain with puts it into the shared computer network called DNS (domain name system). All domain names are put into this system regardless if you paid $7 for the domain, or $300.

When someone wants to view your website, the web browser they are using (eg. Internet Explorer) asks the DNS system to inform it the address of your hosting, then retrieves the website. The DNS system is queried, not your registrar.

There is one area where your choice of registrar for your domain name does matter however. That is support if something goes wrong when you enter your DNS settings. Naturally, the slightly bigger names in the domain registration industry offer slightly better support. Some may be prepared to even set them for you.

All clients ordering domains and hosting accounts at Cherry Web Hosting have their DNS settings entered for them free of charge.
